Star Trek (1971)
The original. Mike Mayfield, still in high school, wrote a text strategy game meant for a teletype with no graphics: an 8×8 galaxy of quadrants, each an 8×8 sector grid, with Klingons to hunt, starbases to dock at, energy, shields and torpedoes to manage, and a stardate deadline.
Lineage
Nothing earlier is known; Ahl recalls Star Trek programs at Carnegie-Mellon and Berkeley in 1967–68. (someone's recollection)
- Lost: it disappeared when the Sigma 7 version was retired.
- Written for a teletype: printed maps, phasers that weaken with distance.
